Even amidst divided government, Idaho voters had high hopes that our new U.S. House of Representatives in 2023 would prioritize true fiscal conservatism. However, the recent debt deal announced by Speaker Kevin McCarthy is far from that. He is proud of $29 billion in cuts, but it’s overshadowed by a massive $4 trillion increase in spending! This deal does nothing to address the problem of runaway spending and only makes our economic situation worse, pushing us closer to a fiscal cliff. Regrettably, the deal passed the House on Wednesday by a 314-117 vote.
But there’s still hope. The deal now heads to the Senate where it could be stopped. Senators Mike Crapo and Jim Risch have a chance to take a stand against never-ending spending, just like Congressman Russ Fulcher did on Wednesday. Together, let’s make sure they know that we want them to prioritize responsible financial decisions and hold out for a better deal. Contact Senators Crapo and Risch by filling out the petition and make your voice heard!
